perhaps the fact everyone already knows the story is the reason they think they can get away without subtitles. I saw an interview with the actress in it and she said that its going to be like a silent film, the visuals alone are going tell the story. Still sounds like a stupid idea. If the visuals are really that amazing surely even if the dialogue is sh1t it wont make any difference, so they might aswell ahve subtitles, cos it can only add to the film.

I just wonder tho... the film is 4 hours long and it seems to show the most gory stuff in the trailer... maybe the rest is sitting around talking and would make a boring trailer? Using violence to sell even a film about Jesus.

What interests me the most however, is the film is totaly in latin and arabic, yet apparently there arent going to be subtitles. Whats up with that? Being in the ancient languages i kinda dig, but at least give us subtitles so we can understand whats going on.

Anyone got any comments on the movie?

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">You can't just have action - there has to be characterisation etc for the action to mean something... although 4 hours does seem a little indulgent of Mr Gibson.

Is it really not having any subtitles? That's interesting, if that's the case then it must be that the film is so cinematic and visually driven that dialogue is unecessary - I find that hard to believe though.

Plus, it's SUCH a familiar and well-known story - maybe the MOST well-known, it will be interesting to see how Gibson keeps it fresh, original and most importantly INTERESTING - maybe he won't...

The film is also proving to be fairly contoversial in the States - whinging religious nuts unsurprisingly - the film is causing increasing tension between certain churches and the Jewish community.

Many people proclaim that cinema lost something with the introduction of sound.

If he CAN do it without dialogue - fantastic!

Mel doesn't want subtitles. The story is going to be told on it's own (ie his) terms. It's kinda like a more extreme version of Romeo and Juliet. I know people who wanted subtitles for that using "normal english."

Mel's choice would seem to be commercial suicide but it is intriging. Although the film's account of various events and groups has been called into question.

There are some who have called it anti-semitic.
